ISLE OF THORNS & DISTRICT BOWLS CLUB

Internal Club Competition Rules 2026

From the start and within 7 days of the completion of each round of the competitions the Challenger (the Challenger being the first named player on the board) must offer his Opponent 3 dates on which he can play.  The Opponent can and should contact the Challenger if they have not been contacted within the time frame of 7 days.  If the Opponent is unable to play any of the 3 dates given, then an amicably agreed date should be arrived at, within the 7 days.  The agreed date is to be entered onto the Competitions board within the 7 days, also entered in the Rink Reservation diary on the website.   If no date can be agreed the Competitions Committee is to be informed.  Should circumstances arise which preclude the game being played within the time allotted the Competitions Committee will consider an extension in special circumstances.  Any matches not booked and indicated on the Competitions Board within the 7 days and not completed within the time allotted, will not be eligible for any extension.  The Competitions Committee will award the match to one player, dependant on the circumstances.

Please keep in mind at the beginning of the season, a number of members will be playing in County Competitions and Local Cup games, so a little thought is required when arranging matches.  Please do not leave your dates to the last week of the round.  It is in the interest of all players to allow leeway for games to be re-scheduled in case of adverse weather.

In the event of a ‘walk over’ a scorecard must be completed and placed in the competition box.

THE FINALS ARE PLAYED OVER A FIXED WEEKEND – SAT/SUN 5/6 SEPT.

Hopefully all matches will be played on the Saturday with the Sunday as a reserve if inclement weather prevails; otherwise, the Sunday will be reserved for a Ladies v. Gents match.  All competition entrants must be FREE FOR BOTH DAYS if entering any competitions.

Please be aware that, in accordance with the Clubs Constitution, All members are encouraged to participate in the annual internal Club competitions. The Management Committee may veto participation if a member’s participation is deemed to be against the spirit and ethos of the club. Any member barred from participation may appeal to the full membership at an EGM and whose decision, based on a majority vote, will be final.

All members are requested to register their interest in taking part at, or before, the Spring Supper in April.  All competitions require a minimum of eight entrants (sixteen in the Pairs) to make them viable.

The format for each competition is shown below.  In all Singles matches, it is the responsibility of the Challenger (the first named player) to arrange a marker.  A list of members with phone numbers, who are prepared to act as marker, is shown and displayed on the notice board.

Drawn Pairs (3 woods each): The players taking part in the first game shall constitute the pair and shall normally play together throughout the Competition.  One additional player, may be used as a substitute at any time provided he or she has not already played in the Drawn Pairs Competition or been a substitute elsewhere, and has a club handicap equal to, or lower than, the missing player that he/she is replacing. No substitutes will be allowed in the Open Pairs Championship.

Timberlee Cup: This competition is open to all club members provided they have not won a club singles competition (with any club) in the past.

The Competitions Committee have the right to monitor rounds and remind members of the rules, to maintain fair play, continuity, and finally to administer the rules.  They have the final say concerning the above rules and will use their discretion to settle any issues that are not covered by these rules.

Dress Code:  All preliminary matches are played in smart casual dress and finals in whites (including markers).
