Run by the North of England Horticultural Society and attended by over 40,000 gardeners and gardening professionals, Harrogate Spring Show is the first major event in the gardener’s calendar. It runs from 23-26 April at the Great Yorkshire Events Centre.
The most popular attraction, as with Chelsea Flower Show, is the show gardens, which draw visitors in for design inspiration and to experience the latest garden design trends. As saunas are increasingly appearing on the garden design wish list, we’re proud to share a special Wildhut guest appearance with you at one of these very special show gardens.
Known for her creative and elegant designs, landscape and garden designer Melissa Morton is creating a feature garden for the Association of Professional Landscapers and she chose Wildhut’s smallest sauna – the OHK – for its centrepiece.
Dubbed ‘The Breathing Space’ this 4m x 5m show garden sits in the ‘unique urban garden spaces’ category and explores how small urban spaces can actively support wellbeing through thoughtful design, material honesty and a closer connection to nature.
Melissa was inspired by Nordic design principles but has grounded her design in Yorkshire materials that work hard, weather beautifully and remain relevant over time. A simple timber boardwalk leads through naturalistic planting to the sauna, encouraging a slow transition from the everyday into a quieter, more mindful space.

“I’m increasingly asked about garden saunas. It’s a fabulous way to add value to gardens, particularly in the colder, darker months when gardens are underused. People are wanting to create places to nurture wellbeing and connect with nature, year-round and this show garden demonstrates that even the smallest of gardens can become a place of warmth, ritual and quiet restoration.”
So what led Melissa to Wildhut?
She says it was the sauna design, craftmanship and quality that was the right fit for her ‘Nordic wellness’ garden design, which echoes the Scandinavian values of longevity, function and restraint.
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. The OHK may be our most compact sauna, but it has all the values Wildhut holds proudly – that is a timeless British design that upgrades the traditional Nordic sauna to achieve optimum performance, quality and lifespan.
The most compact of garden saunas with the highest quality specification
The OHK was developed in response to city dwellers with a small garden who wanted Wildhut’s classic design and uncompromising quality. At a footprint of just 2.64 square metres, it can fit into the smallest of spaces. An optional duckboard and shower completes the wellness experience.

The joy of garden saunas – a year round retreat
In a fast-moving world, an outdoor sauna is hugely beneficial. Space is more freely available outside for sauna lovers, but leaving the house and going into your garden creates the opportunity to disconnect from busy lives. Just being situated in nature will lower stress and hormone levels, reduce blood pressure and calm our nervous systems.
But when you bring the magic of a traditional outdoor sauna into your garden, you start to enjoy enhanced stress reduction; relaxed muscles; improved skin health and sleep; reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, depression and dementia… the scientific evidence is building.
Beyond the health benefits, a garden sauna offers quality downtime year-round and a wood-scented sanctuary to escape without leaving home. Done right, it will add value to your home for years to come.
